Build Your Child's Wellness
How important are vaccinations?
Getting immunizations done on time can keep your child healthy and IN SCHOOL.

When getting the immunizations, if your child has Medicaid, they will need a Medicaid appointment and sometimes these are not readily available upon walk-in basis. Call for an appointment to your clinic to schedule a “well child” check-up if they have not had their yearly exam for Medicaid purposes.

DISD and the Texas Department of State Health Services require that all immunizations must be up to date before any student may attend school. This means that your child can be pre-enrolled but will be sent home and will NOT be allowed to attend until the vaccinations are received. If you decide to wait until the last minute, your doctor or clinic may be out of the vaccine needed as most places are “first come, first served” basis until their supply is gone.

*Remember* to take your record with you and any paper that you were given by the school nurse. Please return the documented statement to the school nurse so your child’s school record may be updated.
NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
As of August 1, 2009, the incoming kindergarten and 7th grade students have new requirements for immunizations. Please make sure that your child is up to date as required and mandatory for school enrollment and attendance.
