    SS Nurse
Healthy Rules!
Should your child come to school today?
Reasons for being sent home from the nurse’s office are:
1. Temperature of 100 degrees or more. Some children naturally have a fever at 99 and need to go home immediately. Each student is different. Also, they need to be 24 hours temperature free without analgesics prior to returning. This eliminates some of the transfer of viruses.
2. Vomiting...but if they are vomiting because they began coughing after running, usually a good rest period will work and they won't be sent home.
3. Head injuries or other traumas that require emergency treatment.
4. Bleeding that cannot be controlled easily.
5. Skin “rashes” that are suspicious and require a note from the doctor stating the condition is not contagious.
6. “Pink-eye” or conjunctivitis. Until I have a note from the doctor stating that this is not conjunctivitis and not contagious to others, or has been on antibiotic therapy for twenty-four (24) hours, the student will be sent home.
Remember, each child is different, so each circumstance will be different and unique. I do my best to keep the student at school if at all possible. I am not allowed to give Tylenol, Advil or other headache medications without your consent; therefore, I do not keep this on hand to give to students.

*Note* please remember, when your child has been sent to the nurse’s office, for any number of reasons, I may need to contact you. It is very hard to contact you if you have not filled out the emergency information card completely. We need at least two (2) contact numbers where you, your family members or other contacts may be reached. Also, make sure that your child or student knows the person that is picking them up. Please know that I do not like to contact you at your work or business establishment unless it is necessary and/or you have requested that I do so, or I have exhausted all other resources.
