    SS Head Start

Farmers in Europe watched hibernating hedgehogs to know when to plant their crops. When the pilgrams came to America there were no hedgehogs, so they observed the closest animal they could find - the groundhog. This is how we came to have our current celebration of Groundhog Day. In our classroom we observed the more traditional Hedgehog Day on February 2nd! We made a maze for McGee to go through, we made hedgehogs with our fingerprints, and we made hedgehog models with playdough and toothpicks. We took lots of pictures of McGee!
